Mental health for strength and empowerment

The mission of the Finnish Association for Mental Health, FAMH is to support and promote good mental health, considered essential at all levels of society and in all spheres of life. As a non-governmental organization the FAMH stimulates interaction between individuals and communities, while activating people to work for the welfare of their own communities

Expertise in the area of Mental Health Promotion

As an expert organization for mental health, the FAMH collects and disseminates information on mental health to serve planning and decision-making, proposes initiatives and publishes reports,  and publishes books and journals.

As a non-governmental organization, the FAMH organizes volunteer activities in the Finnish society, as well as trains professionals and volunteers.

The FAMH provides expert services and training, sells journals and guidebooks as well as produces brochures and promotional material in order to meet its aims.

Through its co-operative networks the FAMH offers support and raises awareness of mental health issues troughout the Finnish society.

As a developer and producer of services, the FAMH responds to social challenges by employing new models to promote mental health and provide help and assistance in crises.

Main Support from the Public Sources

Major part of the FAMH's activity is financed by Veikkaus, a gaming company owned by the Finnish State with a special mission to fund activities that benefit society at large. Veikkaus's grants are applied for annually.

Ministries, local governments and parishes provide some funds as well. For financing, it also collects membership fees, accepts grants and donations as well as organises fund raising.
